Yfky tells you what to listen to

Everyone

Needs to listen to Periphery. Because there is so much tech metal goodness, also everyone needs a band with three guitarists and an epic amount of notes. End of.

Download Announcement #3

A whopping 22 bands were included in tonights announcement and what a collection of bands there is. The way I see it there is something for everyone in this list of bands:

Steel Panther
HIM
Saxon
Airbourne
Coheed & Cambria
-36 Crazyfists
-Dilinger Escape Plan
Dommin
Taking Dawn
-Unearth
Cinderella
A Day To Remember
Lawnmower Deth
Whitechapel
August Burns Red
Ratt
The Blackout
We are the Fallen
-HellYeah
Y&T
Rise To Remain
-Job For a Cowboy

Tonight has also seen the Stage/Day splits have also been given and everything seems to be slotting together nicely for this years download festival.

In the battle of the UK festivals download seems to have a major advantage over sonisphere at the moment due to 2 very strong unanswered announcements from download.

My personal picks have been marked in this post so feel free to ridicule me for my bad music taste.

Sonisphere

Have just announced another batch of bands to be playing this years UK edition of the festival at Knebworth, the bands confirmed are:

Skunk Anansie
Fightstar
Gallows
Funeral For A Friend
Madina Lake
Family Force 5
and
Apocalyptica

Two names really stand out for me in that, Apocalyptica and Gallows, but the announcement hasn’t really done enough to entice me quite yet, a couple more announcements and i’m sure I will want to go but right now I am happy with my download ticket.

Converge

Have just announced that they will be announcing their european tour plans at some point this week, this excites me greatly as I only just missed them on their last tour in the UK and I promised myself I would not miss them again.

Download Announcement #2

The other 2 headliners of this years download festival have been revealed as Aerosmith and Rage Against The Machine. These are 2 pretty huge bands, an added plus is that Aerosmith will be performing with Steven Tyler despite all the rumors stating otherwise.

The other 5 bands to be announced were Stone Sour, Lamb of God, 5 Finger Death Punch, 30 Seconds to Mars and Billy Idol. Ignoring the headliners this is a pretty solid announcement in my eyes, because there are 2 bands that I have not had a chance to see that I would very much like to in LoG and Stone Sour.

Live Review

Lostprophets at the Portsmouth Guildhall 10-2-10

Lostprophets gave an efficient performance at the guildhall. It was technically proficient and every song was well played. The only problem I had was that the whole performance seemed to lack enthusiasm, there was a lack of banter from the band, they just ran through the set like they didnt really want to be there, and when they did take a break between songs they just chatted amongst themselves rather than getting the crowd involved.

Highlights of the night included fan favourites Shinobi vs Dragon Ninja and Burn, Burn. They also threw in a bit of a curve ball with a cover of the Prodigy song The Omen, which was performed well and seemed to fit in well with the rest of the setlist.

Overview:
A strong technical performance that lacked soul.

Download Anouncement

The first 9 bands of the download festival line up have been officialy named as:
AC-DC
Them Crooked Vultures
Deftones
Stone Temple Pilots
Bullet For My Valentine
Megadeth
Motorhead
Wolfmother
Volbeat

Not looking too bad so far.
I am quite pleased with the inclusion of Deftones and Volbeat, as they were not on the list posted earlier.
So yeah, only 5 months until the festival arrives, have a good time waiting and looking forward to it.
